AmCham became a member of the Supervisory Board of the Business Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic

The Decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic dated December 31, 2018 No. 647 “On the authorized person for the protection of the rights of business entities (Business Ombudsman)” was adopted. In line with the project of EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development), the Business Ombudsman is a special and authorized person to protect the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of business entities. The Business Ombudsman will have its own secretariat, which will consider appeals and complaints from entrepreneurs.

The position of Business Ombudsman can be held by any citizen. The Ombudsman will be elected every five years.

The structure of the institution of Business Ombudsman includes the creation of the Supervisory Board as the highest governing body of the BO, which shall determine the strategy and oversee the activities of the BO, including through making key decisions.

The Supervisory Board shall consist of authorized representatives of 3 parties:

Party 1 – Government of the Kyrgyz Republic;

Party 2 – international organizations;

Party 3 – business associations.

Party 3 permanently included 5 business associations, including the American Chamber of Commerce, IBC, JIA, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Association of Markets, Trade and Sphere Enterprises.

The first meeting session of the Business Ombudsman will be held on March 7, 2019.
