U.S. Government Helps Kyrgyz Businesses to Find New Clients, January 24, 2013

On January 24, 2013, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) signed its first contract with a Kyrgyz company through the Portal to Kyrgyz Business Project. This project is implemented by the American Chamber of Commerce in the Kyrgyz Republic with the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Local Development Program.

On January 7, 2013, the CENTCOM Joint Theater Support Contracting Command (C-JTSCC) announced that a Kyrgyz company, KBS Group LLC, was the winner of a tender to supply two generators and transportation to Afghanistan. The award exceeds $143,000.

The award of this contract was made possible by the Portal to Kyrgyz Business Project which supports businesses in Kyrgyzstan. The portal is a six-month pilot effort that began in September 2012. It was founded to improve communication between the business community of the Kyrgyz Republic and USG contracting authorities in order to increase Kyrgyz access to USG contracts. The American Chamber’s effort with the Portal to Kyrgyz Business is a Kyrgyz business-led activity that has generated interest from various Department of Defense contracting authorities for continued financial support, and possible expansion to all Central Asian States.

Currently, 114 Kyrgyz companies have registered with the Joint Contingency Contracting Services (JCCS) with assistance from the Portal to Kyrgyz Business. Registration with the JCCS is a requirement for companies to participate in tenders announced by C-JTSCC.

The Portal to Kyrgyz Business project is made possible by the support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Local Development Program, in cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce.
