Grand Gala Evening in the Hyatt Hotel, in aid of Children with Disabilities

Persons with disabilities are largely left out of society in Kyrgyzstan, relying on help from family members and government benefits of as little as 700 som a month to survive.  3rd December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and EFCA will mark it this year by holding a Grand Gala Evening on the 27^th November in Bishkek’s Hyatt Regency hotel to raise money for rehabilitation centers which help children with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan.  The grand gala evening will feature a champagne buffet supper and a special program of entertainment, including a casino, prize raffle, handicraft auction, live music and a comedy show.  Among over 100 guests will be foreign and local businesspeople, heads of international organizations, ambassadors, members of the city administration and representatives of the country’s most influential media.

Dates: November 27^th, 2009 in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Bishkek, from 6pm to 10pm

The Rehabilitation Centers

Children with disabilities are particularly vulnerable.  Most don’t go to school and are isolated in their homes, without receiving the rehabilitation and support that could transform their lives. EFCA aims to raise $15,000 to renovate and upgrade 3 rehabilitation centers which provide medical, educational and social assistance to children with disabilities and their families in Issyk-Kul Oblast:

1. The Rehabilitation Centre in Maman village could potentially help 30 children with disabilities – but it currently only provides rehabilitation services to 10 children because of a lack of essential equipment.
2. The Centre in Mihailovka village supports 26 children, using rooms in the hospital provided by the Ayil Okmotu.  The rooms have been renovated but they are underequipped, and at the moment the centre can only offer very limited rehabilitation services.
3. The Day Care Centre in Tup village has a building and helps 80 children with disabilities, with 17 visiting the center every day, but again the center lacks basic furniture and equipment.
