APDC center (Association of Parents with Children with Special Needs) is the only pre-school development center in Bishkek working with children with special needs.
The day-care center of APDC has recently opened a room for therapeutic gym classes.
- We want to equip a physiotherapeutic room in our day-care center, - said Saadat Baygazieva, coordinator of the Association’s volunteers. – It will be the first therapeutic gym classes’ room in Kyrgyzstan, equipped with special therapeutic simulators.
To help the Center to realize this idea, Kompanion Financial Group decided to assist the Association and allocated money to fabricate a special therapeutic training simulator for disabled children.
-We are very grateful to Komanion for help provided, - Tamara Balkibekova, coordinator of the day-care center said. – We opened this center three years ago. Now children with diverse and serious abnormalities study there. It is often said that children with special needs are not teachable. We disagree, and do our best to help our children to develop. We work with children from three to seven years old. Here, they acquire communicational skills, day-to-day practical skills, and etc. With these skills acquired, children may feel more confident later at school.
The Association of Parents with Children with Special Needs was established in 1995 in response to needs and problems of handicapped children and their parents. APDC is the first center of this kind in Kyrgyzstan.
During the period of its existence, the Center supported over thousand parents with children with special needs by providing them with humanitarian and technical supplies, legal advice, psychological counseling, and organizing educational and recreational events for children and their parents. At present, more than 100 parents and children are members of the Association.
Mission of the Association of Parents with Children with Special Needs is to promote integration of such children to society, and to create equal opportunities for them in Kyrgyzstan through social rehabilitation, protection and promotion of their and their parent’s rights and interests, development of their potential, and civic engagement.
Kompanion believes that other organizations will not stay indifferent, and calls upon everyone to support such organizations.
